The Foundation was set up under the Vallée d’Osterlog Endemic Garden Foundation Act 2007 which was passed in the National Assembly of the Republic of Mauritius on the 31st July 2007 and published in the Government Gazette as Act No. 19 of 2007. The Act was proclaimed to come into operation on the 4th September 2007 under Proclamation No. 17 of 2007.

The Foundation had started its operation on the 4th September 2007 and the Board of the Foundation was appointed in this month itself. The Board held its first meeting on the 17th October 2007 and during which the priorities for the setting up of the appropriate structures were defined so that the Endemic Garden could be opened up to the public.

The first publication of the Foundation on an “Interim Inventory of Native Species within the Endemic Garden” was launched by the Honourable Dr Arvin Boolell Minister of Agro Industry and Fisheries in May 2008 to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity.

On the 23rd September 2008 approval had been obtained for service with the Foundation to be defined as “approved service” for the purpose of the Pensions Act. This approval was gazetted and appeared as General Notice No. 1878 of 2008.

To mark the International Day for Biological Diversity 2009, the Foundation published a booklet on “Interim Inventory of Native Plants within the Valley” in May 2009.

The Foundation commissioned a Master Plan for development of the Endemic Garden and was approved by Board on the 12th February 2009 and by Cabinet on the 29th May 2009.

The Master Plan was officially presented to the public on the 2nd February 2010 by the Honourable Satya Veyash Faugoo Minister of Agro Industry and Food Production and Security. The Master Plan had taken in consideration that the infrastructure and amenities should fit in the Maurice Ile Durable Concept.

On the 23rd June 2011, the Honourable Satya Veyash Faugoo Minister of Agro Industry and Food Security officially launched the booklet on the Interim Inventory of Fauna within the Garden to mark the International Year of Forests 2011 and the World Biodiversity Day.
